Decorating New Yoga Shala - Hildenborough

My new yoga shala is taking shape! yay! Most days I'm up a ladder painting walls and adding quotes and writings to inspire my new students on their yogic way.

Bulk buys of insense sticks, yoga mats and blankets are all on my list.  I'm creating an space of calm, where students can leave life's pressures outside the front door. A 'still space' to just be, re connect, re energise and re balance.

As an Ashtangi life isn't complete without a daily practice and a home shala to teach in has been my dream. Watch this space :)

Having just returned from Mysore in India, the mecca for Ashtanga yoga,  I would like to create a space that's a little bit of India for me and my students. A yoga heating system is being installed which will take the temperature up to the optimum 25 degrees or even maybe 30.

Ashtanga Hot Yoga! Which will feel especially wonderful during those winter months :)

For the new student: Ashtanga Yoga is a scientifically devised progressive system of asana [postures] which are synchronised with 3 places of attention - Tristana

Bandha-  Torso muscles that are contracted to support the asana and support diaphragm for optimal breathing. Known as energy lacks or seals.

Breath - Audible breathing through the nose. Energises the asana and helps to connect to a meditative practice. Helps to connect you to that 'still place'. Known as Ujjayi Breathing.

Drishti: A focal point specific to each asana that links mind to body inner awareness.

The student learns a routine of asana's [postures] 'The Primary Series'. For the body to execute this series with flow and ease whilst connecting to the mind space is a challenge but once achieved it will give you a solid asana practice for life! The physical effort is rewarded but results that show in your physical body and shape, plus vibrate into your life through a more controlled mind.  It inspires you to commit to your asana practice daily/weekly and ultimately to Yoga.

I'm a little quirky and different when I teach and my underlying motivation to students is 'Lets get on with this'  Lets get the postures done so time can be focused on the other 7 Limbs of Ashtanga Yoga. But thats another blog !

And for fun.
